A ninth grade female student at East Hamilton High School was stabbed multiple times in the lunch room Wednesday morning by a fellow ninth grade female, sources said.
The student with the knife was arrested and transported to the Hamilton County Juvenile Detention Center.
EMTs were called for the the student who was injured. She was taken to a local hospital.
The incident was witnessed by many students.
It happened around 10:30 a.m.
The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division is investigating the assault.
Hamilton County Schools Communications Officer Steve Doremus said, "The altercation between two ninth grade students resulted in one of the students accessing a folding knife and using it during the incident. East Hamilton faculty on duty in the cafeteria intervened immediately. Due to the quick response by all parties, the school was able to resume its normal school schedule for the remainder of the day.
"As safety is our first priority, we will continue our stance of no tolerance for weapons carried on our campus by any student, and we intend to remain committed to make sure that all students are safe. Additionally, we remain committed to supporting the social and emotional well-being of our students and will provide the resources needed."
