Walter M. Chastain, 76, of Cleveland, passed away Monday January 24, 2022 at his home, after a lengthy illness. He loved gardening, playing cards with his family and, above all, spending time with his loved ones in Reliance, where he was raised.
He served in the United States Army from 1965-1968 as a lineman. He retired from Bowater Papermill after 34 years.
Walter was preceded in death by his mother, Lennie Chastain; father, Jesse Chastain; sons, Jesse and Marty Chastain; and siblings, Bernice Rogers, Eunice Kerr, Grady Chastain, Vance Chastain and Jessie Lou James.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 56 years, Linda; children, Jill Holt (Duane) and Tara Davis (Clint); daughter-in-law, Sissy Chastain; grandchildren, Jesse Lowe, Chelsea Cross, Harlie Chastain, Clint, Peyton and Carmen Davis and Chase and Alyssa Holt; several great grandchildren; and siblings, Faye Beard, Ronnie Chastain, Curtis Chastain and Marvin Chastain.
A celebration of Walter’s life will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 27 at the Cleveland Chapel of Companion Funeral Home, with a visitation prior from 5-7 p.m. He will be laid to rest at a graveside service at 11 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 28 at Burchfield Cemetery.
