Vieva Lynn Griffey
Vieva Lynn Griffey, 97, passed away on Friday, September 30, 2022, on the day after her 97th birthday.
She was the last surviving child of the late John Lonzo and Lillie Mae Ellis Lynn. Vieva attended Bartlebaugh Baptist Church for many years as a child and an adult. Her family lived in the Bartlebaugh community until the construction of Chickamauga Dam.
Vieva was a living history source about life on the farm during the Great Depression and living with rationing during World War II. She was a witness of Franklin D. Roosevelt dedicating the Chickamauga Dam. Vieva worked as a clerk at ABC cleaners for several years and up until her retirement. She enjoyed being outdoors tending to her many plants and visiting with family and friends. Vieva always offered compassion and support to those suffering from illness and hardship.
Vieva was preceded in death by her loving husband of 66 years, William Ralph Griffey; brothers, Carl, Hershel, Everett, Ernest, Manuel and Avin, and sisters, Geneva Branrum, Beulah Lynn, Evelyn Shull, Velma Scoggins, and Amy Miller.
She is survived by her daughters, Vicki Griffey of Harrison, and Eva Neil of Chattanooga; sister-in-law, Delores Griffey of Cropwell, Al., as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, Oct. 6, at 2 p.m. at Harrison Cemetery with Dr. Mark Gooden officiating.
There will be no visitation at the funeral home.
