Miriam MacLean Hays (Mimi Bonnell), 96, a follower of Christ, died on October 4, 2022.

She was born on July 20, 1926, in Somerville, Ma., where she and her brother were raised by her grandparents, uncles and aunts. She met her strength giving husband, the late Rep. Forest Hays, Jr. at a rehabilitation hospital where he was a patient and she was a volunteer. They married in 1951 and came to Georgia where she’s been ever since.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Flora and Harry Bonnell; brothers, Duncan I. MacLean Jr, Everett Merlin, Kenneth Floyd, Bertram Bonnell; sister, Thelma, Dorothy, Frances and Norma Bonnell and losing the love of her life her husband of 37½ years, Forest Hays, Jr.

Survivors include her son, Terry (Cathy) Forest Hays; daughter, Susan (Patrick) Hays Ryan; granddaughter, Amanda (Michael) Hays Slaton; grandson, Andrew (Kristy) MacLean Hays; great-grandsons, Alex and William M. Slaton; great-granddaughter, Blakely Slaton; along with many nieces, nephews and loving friends.

The family would like to thank the caregivers at Mary and Martha’s and the Hearth Hospice workers.

Arrangements are by Heritage Funeral Home & Crematory, Battlefield Parkway.
