Toney Cox
Toney Cox was honored as the 2022 Lee Online Alumnus of the Year during Lee University’s Homecoming celebration.
“Toney Cox was selected to be the Lee Online Alumnus of the Year because he represents so many of our working adult students at Lee,” said Dr. Joshua Black, executive director of Lee Online. “Hundreds of the non-traditional students that study through Lee Online balance working full-time, some with two jobs, family, church, and community involvement. Toney is one of many students who successfully navigated all those responsibilities while being a full-time student to complete his undergraduate and graduate degrees online at Lee.”
Mr. Cox is an ordained bishop in the Church of God and currently serves as the full-time lead pastor of The Refuge Church in New Martinsville, West Virginia. He is also a published author and guest speaker at other churches.
He earned his Master of Ministry Studies from Lee in 2020 and his Bachelor of Science in Ministry Leadership with a pastoral emphasis from Lee in 2018. He is currently in the final stages of earning a Doctor of Philosophy in leadership from Liberty University. Cox and his wife Monica have an eight-year-old son, Samuel Bailey Cox.
“Toney is a busy guy, and we applaud his diligence in accomplishing his goals in life!” said Dr. Black.
