The only thing unjust about our recent county mayoral election was that any voter had to claim a party affiliation to vote. Most voters are so over party politics (on both sides) they just want the privilege to vote for the person they think will represent them best. Personally I think it’s time to liberate the voter to vote their conscience, whatever that is. Whoever that is.
If the State Election Committee chooses to “throw out” the legitimate democratic votes cast in the Hamilton County mayoral election for a Republican candidate, then it creates a true conundrum. Statewide. How many other races and elected officials have won from “crossover votes”? Do we need to go back and unwind all those results as well?
I thought the role of parties was to “attract new voters”, broaden the tent, reach out, appeal to new voters? So now when that happens and a new candidate brings new voters, the losers cry foul?
This is exactly why voters are so exhausted with it all. Just let us vote for who we want to vote for.
