Signal Mountain Girls Win Second Straight Track Title

Kara Wilson Wins Three Events As Lady Eagles Prevail With 91 Points

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The Signal Mountain Lady Eagles are starting to get used to domination in the Class AA state track meet as they won their second straight team title at the Dean Hayes Track & Soccer Stadium Tuesday evening.

And that came after finishing second in both 2020 and 2018.

Kara Wilson personally scored 38 points with firsts in three events and second in another as the Lady Eagles finished the day with 91 points, some 12 ahead of runner-up Martin Luther King.

Wilson started with a second-place finish in Monday’s Pentathlon as she scored 2,695 points before winning the long jump with a best effort of 17 feet, seven and a quarter inches and first in the triple jump with a measurement of 35 feet, three and three-quarters inches.

Her day wasn’t over as she also added a first in the 100 high hurdles with a time of 15.82 seconds.

Wilson was the only individual winner for the Lady Eagles, but they also added a victory in the 3200 relay with a winning time of 10:11.72.

Charlotte Harrison finished second in the pole vault by clearing 10 feet after winning the event a year ago.

Maxine Richards placed fifth in both the 1600 and 800 runs with times of 5:25.69 and 2:29.57 while Ada Boyd had a fourth in the 3200 with a time of 11:48.81.

Ashlyn Rock had a fifth in the high jump while Anna Neal and Marlee Burkley were seventh in the triple jump and high jump, respectively.

East Hamilton’s Rayne Heathington was second in the shot put with  best effort of 37-3.5 while McMinn Central’s Maddox Mayfield won the 400 dash in 58.89 seconds.

Chattanooga School for Arts & Sciences was eighth in the A competition with 36 points while Brainerd was 14th with 16 points.

The Signal Mountain boys were third with 58 points behind winning Greeneville’s 68.  East Hamilton was fourth with 40 points.

Gavin McGowan was the only winner for the Signal Mountain boys as he cleared 12-6 to win the pole vault.  The 3200 relay team was also victorious with a time of 8:18.04.

Josh Pote posted runner-up finishes in both the 1600 and 3200 runs with times of 4:22.58 and 9:53.04 while Jack Gibby posted a time of 2:01.84 in taking third in the 800.

Tynan Borders and Noah Shriner were fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 3200 while Kaid Boehm was sixth in the 1600.

Jeremiah Flemons was a one-man show for East Hamilton as he won three events and finished third in a fourth.

He measured 21 feet, 9.5 inches in taking third in the long jump before taking first in the triple jump with a best effort or 43-2.  He cleared 6-6 to win the high jump before finishing first in the 110 high hurdles with  time of 15.07 seconds.

The Red Bank boys posted a time of 3:31.87 in taking third in the 1600 relay.

Alcoa was first in the A boys with 103 points while Brainerd was a distant third with 53.  Sequatchie County and Tyner were fifth and sixth, respectively, with 36 and 30 points.
