Lee Easterly and Sharel Hooper won the blue ribbon with this arrangement in the Garden Club of America’s flower show in Knoxville. Their floral design, which interpreted an antique quilt, also won the Best in Show and the Munger Floral Award for design.
There aren’t many of us who aren’t bedazzled by fresh flowers, especially those that are artfully arranged. For decades, garden clubs all over the country have been renowned for their displays of flowers, and those displays include the live specimens of plants arrangements, photographs of all manner of botany and even mind-boggling jewelry made with natural botanical elements that truly defies the eye! (No way that fabulous brooch is made with pieces of a pine cone!)
It’s a special treat to be able to immerse oneself in this sort of display, and the Garden Club of Lookout Mountain, members of the national Garden Club of America, invite the public to just such a flower show, at no charge. The purpose of a Garden Club of America flower show is to set standards of artistic and horticultural excellence; broaden knowledge of horticulture, flower arranging and conservation; and share to beauty of a flower show with club members and the public. The GCA flower shows combine artistic vision, horticultural mastery, engineering and sophisticated craftsmanship to create a brilliant display of beauty. In short, they are truly a pleasure.
“Back in the Zone” Flower Show takes place at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel at 407 Chestnut Street on Wednesday from 1-5 p.m. This show will feature horticulture specimens from all over Tennessee, Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Arkansas, as well as stunning photographs and gorgeous creations in flower design and botanical arts. A panel of judges from all over the country will evaluate all entries in the show. In addition, there will be a “MarketZone” showcasing local artists and craftsmen with all manner of wares for perusal.
The Garden Club of Lookout Mountain invites you to come enjoy an afternoon of botanical art, and you don’t want to miss this special treat!
