Robert L. “Bob” Hood, 82, of Chattanooga, passed away on Friday, June 10, 2022.

Born and raised in Somerset, Ky., Bob was proud to serve our country in the U.S. Army in Turkey and France. Bob joined Pitney Bowes in Lexington, Kentucky, where he worked his way up to service manager, serving nine offices across the US over his three-decade career. After his retirement, he earned a Master of Science in Organizational Behavior from UT-Chattanooga and taught business and computer literacy courses at Chattanooga State. Always a servant leader, in addition to teaching Sunday School, he served as a deacon in the Baptist church for more than four decades, most recently at First Baptist Church in Chattanooga. As a Mason, he was a member and past Master and Secretary of Temple Lodge 43; and a member of the Scottish Rite and Alhambra Shrine.

Among his many passions were his pets, nature and history.  An avid reader, he was often found enjoying a book describing events in American history, a love he passed on to his grandchildren. Happiest outdoors, Bob spent many days hiking the mountains of Eastern Kentucky and exploring the beauty of the many states he lived in as he climbed the corporate ladder.  Always a fan of sports, he competed in track and baseball in his youth continuing as an observer later in life.  If there was a baseball, football or basketball game on, he was watching.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John F. and Lois Hood; and wife, Mary Sue Hood.

Bob is survived by his wife, Sandra L. Hood; two daughters, Mary Ellen (Aris) Crist of Atlanta and Dr. Karen (Chris) Hopkins of Auburn, Alabama; siblings Jean (Dan) Hanson, Jody (Terry) Velten, Jim (Linda) Hood and Bill (Kim) Hood; four grandchildren, Alexander Crist, Anna Crist, John Crist and 1st Lt. George Crist, USAF.

A funeral service will be held in the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home on Thursday, June 16, at 11 a.m. A visitation will be held from 9:30–11 a.m. prior to services at the funeral home on Thursday, June 16. Interment will take place at Hamilton Memorial Gardens in Hixson.

Memorial donations can be made to First Baptist Chattanooga Dogwood Ministries or the faith-based youth group of your choice.
