Carole Cole Clark passed away on June 24, 2022 at home in Chattanooga.

 

She is survived by her sister Martha Lynn Cole Dowsley; children Catherine Crabtree (Robert), George Clark III (Elissa), Shelton Clark (Catherine), Liz Grant (Frank), and Jeff Clark (Laura); grandchildren Elizabeth Blount (Grady), Drew Baxley (Luisa), Sarah Clark, David Clark (Meredith), Will Clark (Maddy), Margaret Clark, Shelton Clark, Jr., Duncan Clark, Elliott Clark, Megan Grant (Fletcher Hodnett), Mary Catherine Grant, Peter Clark, Caroline Clark, and Henry Clark; step-grandsons Rob Crabtree and Ryan Crabtree (Kelsey); 7 great-grandchildren; nephews Cole Dowsley (Connie) and Felix Dowsley (Susie Douglas); great-nieces Catherine Payne (Jay) and Ashley Dowsley; great-nephews Clayton Cooper (Dana), Cole Dowsley, Jr. (Nicole), Joseph Dowsley (Sarah), Felix Dowsley (Anna Parrott), and Gray Dowsley (Kelsea); stepbrother Roy Hunt; and many other extended family members. She was preceded in death by her niece Susan Dowsley.

 

Carole was born on April 12, 1933, in Humboldt, Tennessee, to the late J.D. and Isabel Cole. After graduating as salutatorian from Humboldt High, she attended Vanderbilt University, where she earned a B.A. in history in 1955. Later that year, she married George McMurry Clark, Jr., and their marriage lasted until George’s death in 2006. A lifelong Presbyterian, she taught Sunday school and volunteered in many other capacities. She and George were charter members of Rivermont Presbyterian Church in 1957.

 

The family would like to thank caregivers Saundra, Jamie, Pamela, and Tonia for their compassionate care recently.

Friends and family are invited to attend the graveside service, Friday, July 8, at 2 p.m. at Forest Hills Cemetery and the visitation/reception to follow at Chattanooga Golf & Country Club from 3:30-5:30 p.m.
