U.S. Navy Veteran Loved Football, Golf, And John Wayne Movies

John Bene Fortson, 84, of Hixson, passed away on June 24, 2022.

John served his country in the United States Navy. He was stationed on the USS Essex. He loved football and golf, but especially watching John Wayne movies. John worked in the furniture industry as a salesman.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lombard and Janice Fortson.

Left behind to cherish John’s memory are his loving wife of 35 years, Linda, his sons, Mike; Mitch; and Steve Fortson, his five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, his brother, Lombard Fortson, and sister, Dorothea Adams.

A Celebration of John’s Life will be held graveside in the Chattanooga National Cemetery on Thursday, June 30, at 1 p.m. with military honors rendered by the United States Naval Honor Guard and the American Legion Post 95.

Arrangements are under the care of the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson.
