I'm not a gun guy. I don't like them and don't like being around them. I do, however, believe in the right to own them. As I understand it - you have to be 21 to purchase a pistol and 18 to buy a rifle. I assume the rifle age is intended for shotguns and deer rifles - generally speaking.
Why not raise the legal age for all firearms from 18 to 21?
Why not create a waiting period of say - 21 days to purchase an assault-style firearm?
Other than a minor inconvenience - I don't see the problem. Statistically - most studies indicate raising the age for all guns and creating a reasonable waiting period for assault style weapons would reduce gun violence in general and specifically reduce mass shootings and suicides.
I'm not suggesting this is the answer - but we have to start somewhere - right? I don't see where we have much of a choice other than to do something - anything differently than we are today. Unless, of course, I am missing something. Anyone who knows me will tell you my missing something is likely the case. So please - tell me what it is - what am I missing?
a. Why is raising the legal age to purchase any firearm from 18 to 21 such a big deal?
b. Why is a waiting period to take possession of an assault-style rifle such a big deal?
