Thomas Bertram Rollins
Thomas Bertram Rollins, 74, of Cohutta, Georgia, passed away on Sunday, July 3, 2022. He died peacefully at his home.
“Tommy” was born on February 6, 1948, to WR and Josephine Rollins in Norton, Va. One of five children, Tommy was the second to youngest in a Methodist pastor’s family. He graduated from Abingdon High School and went to East Tennessee State University for his undergraduate degree in Education.
Tom taught high school biology at Tyner High School in Chattanooga. After marrying Joan Bennett, on August 22, 1972, he continued his education at Mercer University School of Pharmacy in Atlanta. While in pharmacy school, Tom and Joan had their first daughter, Kathryn Leigh Rollins Grady. Four and a half years later, they welcomed their second daughter, Lara Michelle Rollins.
Tom was a pharmacist for many years. He worked at pharmacies including Eckerd Drugs, Walgreens, and K-Mart. After retirement, he did part-time work at ValuRite drugs in Dalton, Ga. He loved pharmacy and had many stories that he shared to anyone who would listen. Tom was also an avid nature watcher. He could name any tree, flower, or bird out there. He loved living on his property that was surrounded by nature.
He is preceded in death by his father, mother, two brothers, and a sister.
He is survived by his wife, Joan Bennett Rollins, his daughters, Leigh Grady (Jeff) and Lara (Justin Oster), and his two amazing grandchildren, Blake and Emma Grady. He is also survived by his youngest brother, Joe Rollins, as well as many nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held at Heritage Funeral Home, 7454 East Brainerd Road, Chattanooga, Tn. on Thursday, July 7, from 4-6 p.m.
Immediately following visitation, a service officiated by Reverend Amy Rollins Probst (Tommy’s niece) will be held at 6:00 PM in the funeral home chapel.
