UTC has started calling its women’s volleyball team, indoor volleyball, and that leads to names of other sports. And since I started with volleyball, let us stay with volleyball to start. Somehow, I assumed volleyball was played indoors, what did I know, unless it is called ‘beach volleyball’ played on the beach? When in actuality beach volleyball plays on the sand, outdoors, but you could have a sand volleyball court inside, and thousands of miles away from beaches. Should we call beach volleyball sand volleyball or outdoor volleyball, but wait I have a grass volleyball court. Do we now have grass volleyball, played on grass, unless the volleyball game is played inside of a dome with artificial turf and then it becomes.... And let us call it women’s indoor volleyball, but wait, we could have a transgender player and what do we call it now? Trans Women Indoor Volleyball. Who knew you could have so many different team names for one sport.
The NFL should have two leagues, one for outdoor football and one for indoor football. And I guess North Dakota State football champion teams in the FCS should be champions of the FCS Indoor Football league because they play all their home games in a dome. And then you have Major League Baseball with one dome stadium and several dome stadiums with retractable roofs. If it is raining the baseball game plays inside a dome or retractable dome stadium, so do we now have an indoor baseball league?
And then we have basketball. How do we know that basketball games are played inside and not played outside on an asphalt or concrete court? Again, I just assumed that school basketball teams, middle school, high school, college, pros, and on played their games indoors. But now I do not know, the basketball game could have been played outdoors. So, UTC now has Indoor Men’s Basketball and Indoor Women’s Basketball, because if it did not say indoors, I would not know if the basketball games were played indoors or outdoors. Or the basketball game was played on a cruise ship, and now we have cruise ship outdoor sailing basketball, men, or women.
