Farris Dewey Haynes
Farris Dewey Haynes, age 89, of Tunnel Hill, Georgia, departed this life Monday, August 1, 2022 at a local hospital.
He was born March 1, 1933 in Tunnel Hill, a son of the late C.V. and Laura Edgemon Haynes. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Edgar Haynes, Eugene Haynes and Earl Haynes; and sisters, Betty Harrison, Lula Bell Brown, Jewell Curtis, Geneva Watts, Bobbie Kirk and Ruby Lee Fly.
He proudly served his country in the United States Army in Germany. He served as a Baptist deacon and choir director for over 40 years at various local churches.
He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Barbara Ann Haynes of the residence; son and daughter-in-law, Delbert and Karen Haynes of Rocky Face, GA; daughter and son-in-law, Beverly and Roland Joy of Hampden Maine; grandchildren, Michael and Shanna Guess, Zach and Diana Poarch, Justin Poarch and Whytnie Martin Sackett, Jacob and Karena Haynes, Lucas Haynes; great-grandchildren, Jett, Halen, Aidan, Andrew, Mason Farris, Mahala, Ryan, Adelina, Laura; and several nieces and nephews.
Service to celebrate the life of Mr. Farris Dewey Haynes will be held Thursday, Aug. 4, at 2 p.m. from the Ponders Melrose Chapel with Reverend Gary McPherson, Reverend Clyde Painter, and Reverend Cliff Chambers officiating. Interment will follow in the Ponders Whitfield Memorial Gardens with Delbert Haynes, Jacob Haynes, Jett Haynes, Justin Poarch, Zach Poarch, and Michael Guess serving as pallbearers. The American Legion Post 112 will be in charge of military honors.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5-9 p.m. on Wednesday.
