Laura Hedges Allison, of Lookout Mountain, Georgia, peacefully passed away at home on Sunday, August 7, 2022 at the age of 90 surrounded by her loving family. 


She grew up on Missionary Ridge, then lived and raised her family on Lookout Mountain. She attended the Bright School, GPS, Ursuline Academy, and Converse College. She was a communicant of Our Lady of the Mount Catholic Church, a longtime member of both the Junior League and of the Garden Club of Lookout Mountain where she was recognized for her love of learning and dedication to the club and the community.


Laura had a creative and artistic eye. Her talent in architectural design and attention to detail can be seen in many of the homes of her friends and family as well as in the design of Our Lady of the Mount Catholic Church. She will be remembered for her creative spirit, her love of animals, her passion for cooking and joy of entertaining, and her selfless devotion to her family and to the Catholic faith. Laura was a maker of memories. Being the family matriarch, she hosted many large gatherings which bonded her
 close knit extended family.

 

She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Newell Sanders Allison (Sarge), her parents Mary McGowan Hedges and James Robinson Hedges, II (Coach), her step mother, Dorothy Brizzie Hedges (Dot), brothers Mert and Jimmy Hedges and sisters, Shirley Logan Mebane, Mary Alice Willingham Oaks, and Emeline Hedges Ferguson. She was also predeceased by her much loved devoted friend and niece, Shirley Logan Waymouth.

 

Laura and Sarge had four loving children, Dorothy Allison Sutter (Trey), Newell Sanders (Sandy) Allison, Jr. (Ellen), Laura Allison Jones (Tom), and Ben Matthews Allison (Monelle Totah). Anmommie was so very proud of her twelve adoring grandchildren, Tommy (Sydney), Elliott (Bryna), and Ben (Claire) Sutter, and Kaitlin (Cary Rich), Emily, Margaret, Mimi, Newell, and Corinne Allison, and Laura Jones Barnett (Nick), Allie Jones Hall (Andrew), and Lizzie Jones (Emerson Brown).  Her loving nature was also shared with seven great-grandchildren, sisters-in-law, Peegee Allison Marler and Mimi Allison McDonald, nieces and nephews, and many friends. She will be dearly missed.

 

The memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 11, at our Lady of the Mount Catholic Church followed by a gathering of family and friends at the Parish Hall.
