Bertia Smith Windsor “Nanny”, 96, of Rossville went home to be with the Lord on Monday, August 8, 2022, surrounded by her family at Southern Heritage Assisted Living.

Bertia was born to the late Henry and Velma Smith on December 24, 1925.  She grew up in Section, AL with her nine siblings.  She moved to the Chattanooga and North Georgia area in 1952 where she and her late husband raised their family.

She was referred to by everyone as “Nanny”.  She treasured her family and enjoyed preparing Sunday meals for over 20 people. Her family and friends were always welcomed to come and eat Sunday dinner after she had attended church. Nanny was proud of her large vegetable and flower garden. She loved crocheting when she was not cooking, reading her Bible, or working in her gardens. Nanny set the example of a true virtuous Godly lady and she was ready to go home to be with the Lord. Nanny was a member of the Rossville Church of God and she retired from Knitco Textiles.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Roy Windsor; her parents; seven brothers and sisters; and son-in-law, Ardie Moore.

Survivors include her children, Sandra Moore and Larry (Carolyn) Windsor; sister, Angie Thomas; brother, Bill Smith; grandchildren, Eric (Kim) Moore, Aimee (Jason) Sammons, Shawn (Tina) Moore, and Lori (Kevin) Purple; great grandchildren, Jacob (Amanda), Kalyb (Ansley), Dylan (Jessica), Hailee (Tyler), Nicholas (Kayla), Morgan (BJ), Ethan, and Caroline; great-great grandchildren; Ayden, Abby, Paislee, Kylee, Ollie, Olivia, Lily, Colt, and Gentree.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Southern Heritage Assisted Living and Hearth Hospice for their kindness and love to Nanny during this time.

Condolences may be shared and live webcasting will be available at www.lane-southcrestchapel.com.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Aug. 13, at 11 a.m. in the South Crest Chapel with Reverend Ron Ingram officiating.

Interment will follow in the Tennessee-Georgia Memorial Park with her grandsons serving as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends Friday from 4-8 p.m. and Saturday one hour prior to the service at the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home and Crematory, Rossville.
