Thomas Lee Carter, Sr., 84, passed away on Tuesday, August 25, 2022 in Chattanooga, TN.

Tom was a native and lifelong resident of Chattanooga. He was born on Aug. 12, 1938, to Gordon Frank Carter and Mildred Brady Carter. Tom graduated from Red Bank High School and Georgia Tech with a mechanical engineering degree. He retired from DuPont in Chattanooga after many years of service. He was commissioned through ROTC at Ga. Tech and retired as a Lt. Colonel from the TN Army National Guard. Tom excelled in everything he did and had many hobbies. In woodworking he designed and built many things including lamps, toys and furniture. He was very creative, meticulous and always plotting and planning some project.  He enjoyed scuba diving and as in everything he had to learn all about it, he became a dive master. He was an Eagle Scout and was Perry’s den and troop leader having helped him obtain Eagle Scout rank.  He loved being outside doing yard work and again had many projects like landscaping, tree and underbrush removal. He enjoyed riding motorcycles locally and had many long trip adventures, some with me and many with his riding guy friends. He was very active with RBHS class of 1956 events and enjoyed planning reunions to get class mates together. He had many lifelong friends from the group. Tom was a loving and devoted son, husband, father, grandad and friend.

We loved traveling and had many fantastic trips together and many with family and friends. Tom was deeply loved by many and will be dearly missed by all that knew him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gordon Frank Carter and Mildred Brady Carter and his half-sisters, Evelyn Moore and Jean Carr.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Deloria Trew Carter; two children, Lee Carter, Jr. (Andrea) of Lawton, OK and Amy Carter Hodges of Chattanooga and four grandchildren, Hannah and Sophie Carter and Perry and Price Hodges.

The family requests a gathering of family and friends on Tuesday, Sept. 6, from 10:30 a.m. followed by a memorial service at 11:30 a.m. in the Heritage Funeral Home Chapel.  A private interment will take place at Chattanooga National Cemetery.
