Anjelah Johnson-Reyes
Anjelah Johnson-Reyes is brining her current comedy show to Walker Theatre on Saturday, Sept. 24.
Review for Anjelah Johnson-Reyes:
Stand-up comedian, actress, dancer, internet sensation (her viral sketch “Nail Salon” has over 100 million views) and now author, Anjelah Johnson-Reyes recently displayed her dancing prowess on Fox’s The Real Dirty Dancing and her first book, Who Do I Think I Am: Stories of Chola Wishes and Caviar Dreams (March 15/Hachette-Worthy) debuts this month. The former Raiderette relished the opportunity to compete at the same lodge in Pembroke, Va. where they filmed the iconic film. In her book, she uses her razor-sharp wit recounting funny stories from her journey growing up in suburban San Jose caught between two worlds (do chips and salsa go with potato salad?) to unexpectedly embracing faith, to her many adventures in dating, to getting a coveted spot as an Oakland Raiders cheerleader, to becoming a successful comedian and her encounters with famous people from Oprah to a visit to Michael Jackson’s Wonderland. Her stories explore important subjects such as navigating your racial identity, finding your place in the world, chasing your crazy dreams, the messiness of an evolving faith and searching for belonging and meaning.
Anjelah has had four one-hour comedy specials (the most recent is Not Fancy on Netflix) and was on the first season of MadTV (where she originated the popular character, Bon Qui Qui).
When she’s not on tour, she is at home in Nashville with her husband and her dog, creating TikToks for her 2.6 million followers.
