Sue Ann (O’Leary) Owensby (Granny Sue), 81, of South Pittsburg, Tennessee, gained her heavenly wings on September 26, 2022 with her loving daughter Gwendolyn by her side.

Sue was born in Newport News, Virginia and raised in Rockford, Illinois and South Pittsburg, Tennessee. She was a 1961 graduate of South Pittsburg High School. Sue worked at Pittsburg Knitting Mills and Shaw Industries in South Pittsburg, where she later retired.

Sue was a loving and devoted mother, sister and friend to many. She put her family and friends above herself for the fulfillment of their happiness and loved the Lord with all her soul. She loved and enjoyed spending time with her family, friends and spoiling her great grandchildren. She loved traveling, attending concerts and sporting events with her daughter Gwen, growing beautiful flowers and working in her yard. Her most prized possessions were her great-grandchildren, Rylie Jo Gaddis and Lucas Allen Jeffrey Becker. She was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church of South Pittsburg, where she was also a choir member.

Sue was preceded in death by her parents; Robert Earl and Jennie Irene (Gray) O’Leary, her former husband; Jack Garey Owensby, her brother William Earl O’Leary, her mother-in-law Avyleen Allison, her loving brother-in-law Terry Don Allison, her bonus sisters Barbara Davis Sayler and Mae Davis Alava and her bonus daughter Cindy Sayler Hickey.

Sue is survived by her son Clifford Stephen (Carol Tidaback) Owensby of Spring Valley, Illinois, daughter Gwendolyn Starr Owensby of South Pittsburg, Tennessee, her granddaughter Brittany Tidaback of Spring Valley, Illinois, her great grandchildren; Rylie Jo Gaddis and Lucas Allen Jeffrey Becker both of Spring Valley, Illinois, her brother Robert Wayne (Jean) O’Leary of South Pittsburg, Tennessee, brother-in-law Dr. Thomas R. (Claudia) Owensby of Ooltewah, Tennessee and sister-in-law Diane Hale Martin of Apison, Tennessee. She is also survived by, dearly loved and was very loved by her grand fur babies: Lola Lee, LouLou, Sassybutt, Jack, Bingo, Max and Shaggy.
Sue is also survived by her bonus sister Glenda Weir, her bonus daughters Vanessa Sayler Radcliffe, Kimberly Sayler Croft, Angela Haggard Stephens, Linda Gudger, Pam Jones Pace, Crystal Carson Anderson, Wendy Campbell Alder and Jennifer Layne, her bonus sons Bobby Gudger, Richard Pace, Jimmy Layne, Sean Dunwoody and Mike Burkhalter and her bonus grandsons Hunter LeMay and Johnathon Mayfield and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 30, 2022 at 1:30 p.m. (CST) in the South Pittsburg chapel of Rogers Funeral Home with Bro. Jim Richardson officiating and a special reading by Mark O’Leary.

Ms. Sue will be laid to rest at the Sequatchie Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Jasper, Tennessee.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 29, 2022 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. (CST) and on Friday, September 30, 2022 from 12:00 (noon) to 1:30 p.m. (CST) prior to the funeral service in the funeral home chapel.

Pallbearers will be Hunter LeMay, Mark O’Leary, John Williams, Kennon Owensby, Keith Owensby and Kevin Owensby.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Henry Lodge, Scott Radcliffe, Bryan Croft, Trevor Radcliffe, Bobby Gudger, Richard Pace, Mike Burkhalter, Sean Dunwoody, Jimmy Layne and Donald Blansett.
