Beck Burnette shot a 67-70-68 to finish five under winning the Cougar Invitational on Tuesday afternoon. Burnette finished four strokes ahead of the second place finisher. The Flames shot 288 as a team on Tuesday to come in second place just one stroke behind the winning team, Anderson University.

Oliver Lewis-Perkins was the second best finisher for the Flames with a sixth place finish shooting a 205. Dalton Chubawas 14th with a 219. Wyatt Brackett, in his first collegiate tournament, came in 20th with a 221.
Connor Pollman was one stroke behind come in 25th with a 222. Harrison Smith was 29th with a 225, and Ben Seay was 46th with a 231.

Head Coach John Maupin was really pleased with the result. “A really good effort from our guys today to make a run at the win. We had a great meeting last night, and I loved our team energy to start the round. Two great individual rounds from Beck and Ollie today, I’m not sure there was any other player in the field under par today, so that was obviously a big lift. We’re still working to get four strong scores together but it’s coming. I was really encouraged by Ollie’s round today…he’s been working hard and it’s been so close, it was nice to see him close that one down today in some tough conditions. It stings to lose by one, but we move that feeling of being in the hunt, and I think we gain so much from the experience of it.”

For Burnette, it was his fourth career win as a Flame and coach Maupin was very proud of him. “I’m really proud of Beck, he is off to a great start this year, and it’s impressive to think that’s his 4th college win. He is a special player, and a great leader for our team.”

The Flames will head to Allendale, Mich. next Monday and Tuesday, Ocotber 3-4 to compete in the Grand Valley State University Invitational
