Darwin M. Lane
Darwin M. Lane, 89, of Hixson, Tennessee, passed away Thursday, September 29, 2022.
He was a native of Birchwood, Tn. and graduated from Birchwood High School, the University of Tennessee-Knoxville and received a graduate degree in School Administration from George Peabody College for Teachers, Nashville. He was a 40-year veteran educator of the Hamilton County and Chattanooga Public Schools serving 37 years as a school principal, his last 30 years at DuPont Elementary School.
During his tenure, he served as principal 18 years in the Hamilton County Schools and he served as president of the Hamilton County Principals Association. On his journey with the Chattanooga Public Schools, he served as president of the Chattanooga Principals Roundtable during his tenure there.
Upon retirement, he served as president of the Chattanooga-Hamilton County Retired Teachers Association, the East Tennessee RTA and three years as a member of Tennessee RTA Board of Directors. He was also an active member of the Roark-Conner Family Association, also having served as its president. He was a long-time member of Red Bank Baptist Church.
He was predeceased by his sister, Aleita Yvonne, and brothers, Malcolm DeFriese, Herman, Norman, Bryan and Marvin.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Joyce Roark Lane; sons, Norman G. (Lucinda), Clint W., David V. and Jeff M. Lane; one brother, Dr. L. Quentin (Evelyn) Lane; and one sister-in-law, Hazel B. Lane.
Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, in Hamilton Memorial Gardens with Dr. Fred Steelman presiding.
