  • Tuesday, January 3, 2023

Laska J. Manning Dorsey, age 75, of Ringgold, Georgia, went home to be with the Lord, Saturday morning, December 31, 2022 at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Laska was born April 10, 1947 in Dalton, Ga. She was an only child to the late Lewis “Heavy” and Evelyn Manning. She was also preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Amy Dorsey.

Laska was a 1966 graduate of Westside High School. This is where she met her high school sweetheart, best friend, and the love of her life, Kenneth Dorsey. They were together for over 60 years. She was a devoted and loving wife. She was a caring and supportive mother to her three sons and daughters-in-law, Ken and Brenda, John and Rebecca, and Hugh and Mandy. She was the sweetest and godliest grandmother to her grandchildren, Sarah and Hayden, John, Jr. and Kathleen, Kent, Hannah and Dakota, Julie, Matthew, Rachel, Kaylee and Clara and great-grandson, Sawyer.

Laska was a loyal friend to many. Laska spent most of her working days at Dogwood Christian Academy where she was the Bulldogs “Most Valuable Fan.” Laska was a faithful member of Dogwood Valley Baptist Church for almost 50 years and loved her church, pastor, and church family deeply. She asked the Lord to save her when she was 25 years old.

Laska will be greatly missed but her love, her smile, and her great sayings, "just do right” and “many hands make light work,” will always be remembered and treasured.

The family would like to say a special thank you to all her wonderful nurses, Shelly, Cortney, Aaron, and many others.

Services to celebrate the life of Mrs. Laska will be held Wednesday, Jan. 4, at 1 p.m. at Dogwood Valley Baptist Church with Pastor John Dorsey Sr. and Pastor Jeremiah Quarles officiating.

She will be laid to rest in the church cemetery following the services with her sons, Ken Dorsey, John David Dorsey, Hugh Dorsey and her grandsons, John “Bubba” Dorsey, Kent Dorsey and Matthew Dorsey honored to serve as pallbearers.

Family will receive friends at the Dogwood Valley Baptist Church, (5296 Dogwood Valley Rd., Tunnel Hill, GA, 30755,) from 5-9 p.m. Tuesday and after 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church until the service hour.

Arrangements are by Ponders Melrose Chapel, 138 Melrose Dr., Dalton, Ga. 30721, (706) 226-4002.
