George Lee Fletcher
George Lee Fletcher, also known as “POP” or “Fletcher” among his family and friends, left his earthly home and went peacefully to his heavenly home on January 21, 2023, at the age of 85.
George graduated Howard High School in 1956 and went on to serve his country in the U.S. Army for six years. He pursued a life of fulfillment by working almost 30 years at CSX Railway where he retired as an engineer. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
George was preceded in death by his parents, Martha Lou Russell Fletcher and Gilbert Fletcher; his wife, Yvonne Fletcher; daughter, Yolanda Faye Golson; uncle, Paris Fletcher and his aunts Bertha Mae Hughes and Annie Fletcher.
Survivors include his son, Jeff (Donessa) Fletcher of Charlotte, NC; six grandchildren, Lindra (Terrance) Crowder Sr., Jerome (ReYaundra)Stewart Jr., Thomas (Kendra) Stewart Sr., Brenda Stewart and Breonna Fletcher all of Chattanooga, TN; and Keonna Fletcher of Charlotte, NC.
George’s step children include Shelia Whitlock (5 children) of Irvine, CA, Eugene Nichols of Inglewood, CA, and Jackie Jones (10 children) of Knoxville, TN.
George also leaves behind a host of great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, Feb. 3, at 11 a.m. at John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Avenue, Chattanooga, Tn., 423 622-9995.
Interment will be in Chattanooga National Cemetery. Gate time is at 12:30 p.m.
