U.S. Air Force Veteran Held Long Career With The Raines Group

Arch Thomas Burton was born on April 17, 1932, to the union of Limmie and Alma Burton. He was educated in Chattanooga Public Schools and was a graduate of Howard High School. He later enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served his country for four years. He was a faithful member of Pierce Avenue Missionary Baptist Church where he served his entire life. Arch was faithfully employed by the Raines Group for 37 years. He enjoyed reading and spending time with family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Limmie and Alma Burton; brother, Allen Burton; sisters, Eleanor Young, Doris Burton, Rochelle Kidd, Delsie Taylor, Dorothy Sewell; uncle and aunt, Enous and Alice Burton; nieces, Pamela Smith, Edith Ann Young; nephews, Kenneth Smith and Kelvin Smith.

Survivors include one sister, Mary Alice Jordan; brother, Jimmy Harris both of Chattanooga; grandson, Carrington King; sister-in-law, Hannah Burton; nieces, Yuvette Sanders of Chattanooga, Vanessa Drawn, Mobile, AL, and Berdina Miller; great nephews, Adrian Jackson of Chattanooga, Tory Sanders, Nashville, Tennessee. Special friends, William “Bill” Raines, Richard Rose, Henrietta Griffin; special cousins, Sue Kilgore, Tristan Kilgore, Dana Montgomery and Dedra Hudson; a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Public viewing will be held from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 3, followed by a noon funeral service in the chapel of John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Ave., Chattanooga, Tn., 423 622-9995.

Interment will take place at Chattanooga National Cemetery, with a 1:30 p.m. gate time.
