Johnson, Dorothy Jean Taylor (Trenton)

  • Wednesday, February 1, 2023
Dorothy Jean Taylor Johnson, 85, of Trenton, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, January 31, 2023 at her home.

Dorothy was born on June 28, 1937 in Marshall County, Al. to the late Burton S. & Mary (Bower) Taylor. Loving life and people, she was always happy to talk or say hello to anyone. Along with her late husband, Lester, she enjoyed working on the farm and canning everything they grew, sharing with the neighbors, friends and family. Cakes, pies, soups and her famous peanut brittle were enjoyed by many. Dorothy loved her Lord and was a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church, where she could be found washing dishes after every social event. She loved her animals and took care of many cats and dogs that people would drop off at the farm. Her family was her pride and joy and she delighted in making things for all of them. She will be missed greatly by those who knew her, especially her friends and family.

In addition to her parents and husband, Dorothy was preceded in death by her sisters, Irene Cartin and Louise (Bobby) Shultz; brothers, Virgil (Frances) Taylor and Jack Taylor; and two unseen grandbabies who are now sitting in her lap in heaven.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Cheryl Ann (Pete) Norris, of Trussville, Al. and David (Lisa) Johnson, of Trenton; grandchildren, Craig Norris, of Trussville, Al., Katie (Joe) Beach, of Birmingham, Al., Daniel Johnson, of Alpharetta, Ga., and Katie Brown of Trenton; great-grandchildren, Roston and Clara Beach, of Birmingham, Al.; best friend, Carol Elkins, of Ringgold; and many friends, extended family and church family also survive Mrs. Johnson.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Feb. 4 at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel, with Rev. Tim Renshaw officiating. She will be laid to rest in Lake Hills Memorial Gardens. Craig Norris, Daniel Johnson, Joe Beach, Pete Norris, Chris Stallings and Tim Prince will serve as pallbearers.

A special thank you is extended to all that have visited, called or even texted during this hard time. Also, thanks to Hearth Hospice for their loving care.

Share condolences at her online guestbook at ryanfuneralhome.net.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions should be made to Gideon’s International at Gideons.org.

The family will receive friends on Friday, Feb. 3 from 6-8 p.m. and Saturday from 1 p.m. until the service hour at Ryan Funeral Home & Crematory, Trenton.
