The Cleveland and Athens communities will gather at Cleveland’s Jenkins Deli on 25th Street Sunday (Feb. 5) to remember its founder Kay Jenkins Cowan, who died Thursday.

Kay founded Jenkins Deli in 1976 and had two locations - one in Cleveland and one in Athens.

Former Cleveland Mayor Tom Rowland said, "The delis were landmark businesses and Kay was known for her charitable endeavors in both cities. She was honored for her leadership in 2002 when she was awarded the Bradley-Cleveland Chamber of Commerce Small Business Person of the Year.

A community wide gathering will be held Sunday from 2 to 4 pm at Cleveland’s Jenkins Deli.
After that a private family funeral will be held in North Carolina.
