Van Andrew Davis, Jr.
Van Andrew Davis, Jr., “Andy”, 77, of Dalton, Georgia, went to be with the Lord on February 6, 2023.
He was the son of Van Andrew Davis and Sara Hayes Davis (Tift), of Douglas, Ga.
Andy was born on June 22, 1945 in Ft. Knox, Ky. and resided for most of his adult life in Carrollton, Ga. He grew up in Douglas, Ga., graduated from Coffee County High School, attended South Georgia Jr. College and Georgia Southern where he played baseball and graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Physical Education and received his Masters in Education from UGA. He was married to Catherine Ward Davis for 28 years. He taught and coached in schools from 1963 to 1981, including baseball coach at Gordon College, and retired from the University of West Georgia in Carrollton in 2000 from the Continuing Education Department. He then worked part time for the Cultural Arts Center in Carrollton before moving to Dalton in 2018, which put him closer to his two sons and grandchildren.
Andy performed and directed in over 70 plays for CCCT, Carroll County Community Theater, where one of his proudest performances was the Lion in the “Wizard of Oz”. He also enjoyed painting, traveling, and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his two sons, Van Andrew Davis III and his wife, Caroll, and their children Lunden, Grayson, and Hadley; and Douglas Ward Davis and his wife, Kerry, and their children Nathan, Katelyn, and Emily. He is also survived by his sister, Sarolyn Davis, of Knoxville, TN, and her children, Wade and Lyn Youngblood and their families.
Visitation will be held at Trinity Baptist Church of Carrollton, Ga., on Saturday, Feb. 11, at 10 a.m., with the service following at 11 a.m.
