Near the end of his life on March 20, 1994, Lewis Grizzard (LG) reflected on the approximately 37 unfulfilled goals in his life.

The following are some of the things that he wanted to accomplish after his fourth aortic heart valve replacement that led to his premature death that are in the article “Goals of the Grateful” in “It Wasn’t Always Easy, but I Sure Had Fun” (Villard Books – 1994):

1. Stay out of New York City. Stay out of most major cities.

2. Cut down by at least half the number of airplanes in which I must ride.

3. Find a church where they sing out of the old Methodist Cokesbury Hymnal.

4. Visit the site of the Normandy invasion and write about how it feels to stand there.

5. Avoid meetings with lawyers and accountants.

6. See Georgia win another national football championship.

7. Find a woman who would cook me fried corned beef that comes in a can and not call it Spam.

8. Never experience a fourth divorce.

9. Call people I love more often.

10. See Rock City. I’ve never seen the S.O.B. Honest.

(Would they have waived the admission price for LG?)
