McCallie Track & Field Impressive At Alabama meet

The McCallie Track team travelled to Ft. Payne, AL to compete against some out of town programs and the Blue Tornado was impressive.  The meet was hosted by Ft. Payne High School on their beautiful and new 8 lane track.  McCallie outpaced the field of 17 schools with a score of 238 pts, followed by Scottsboro with 85 pts.   McCallie athletes scored among the top 5 entries in every event.  Winners for McCallie.  Enrique LeClare lead a 1, 2 McCallie finish in the 100 with a time of 11.17.  Amaru Mazibuko was 2nd in 11.28. 

Kavan Reynolds won the 400 in 50.49 followed by teammate Andrew Smith in 51.31.  Jack Bowen won the 1600 with a new personal best of 4:16.90 outkicking teammate Evan Simpson in 4:17.57.  Hugh Carlson in 4:22.98 and Harry Carter 4:24.43 finished 3rd and 4th.  McCallie also swept the top 4 places in the 3200 with Evan Simpson returning the favor and out kicking Jack Bowen to run 9:51.79.  Carlson and Grady Outlaw were 3rd and 4th

The 800 was impressive as Nate Armstrong led a contingent of McCallie runners under the 2 minute barrier.  Armstrong ran 1:58.38, Evan Simpson 1:58.59, Henry Edwards 1:58.77, Sam Baker 1:58.99, Hugh Carlson 1:59.70.  Jack Bowen at 2:00.12 and Rhys Woodard 2:01.59 just missed the sub 2 minute mark.  The McCallie distance crew continued their success as the 4 x 800 relay team of Rhys Woodard, Sam Baker, Henry Edwards and Nate Armstrong won with a state leading time of 8:06.62.   Kendrick Reynolds won the 300 Hurdles in 40.64.  Graham Clark was 4th in 42.59. 

McCallie won the 4 x 100 in 44.01 with a team of TJ Usher, Wells Emrick, Kolin Claridy, Enrique LeClare.   The 4 x 400 relay of Kendrick Reynolds, Caughran Fowler, Andrew Smith, Kavan Reynolds won with a time of 3:26.35.  Field event highlights for McCallie included Kolin Claridy scoring in the High Jump clearing 6’ and Long Jump leaping 20’3”.  Kavan Reynolds captured 2nd in the Triple Jump with a leap of 43’2”. 

Teddy Wingfield cleared 11’ in the Pole Vault and Jay Williams tossed the Discus 125’1”.  Evan Simpson was named the outstanding male performer of the meet.  A group of McCallie athletes will compete at Red Bank next week before Spring Break.
