Temporary beer permits have been approved for several upcoming special events in Chattanooga. The Moon River Music Festival will be held for the eighth year in Coolidge Park, along the Tennessee River on Saturday, Sept. 9 and Sunday, Sept. 10. Hours both days will be from noon until 11 p.m. There have been no violations concerning beer during the previous eight festivals, Aaron Wilkinson told the beer board Thursday morning.
The festival is characterized as somewhat family oriented, he said, with children accompanying their parents. There will be security guards provided by a private company along with Chattanooga Police. Guards will be at the entrances and roaming throughout the event. At the entrance gates a point-of-sale system will identify if a person is eligible to buy beer. The board unanimously approved the sale of beer during the music festival.
The Teal Music Event, a fundraiser for the Launch Pad, will be held on Saturday, Aug. 5, from 6-10:30 p.m. The Launch Pad is a non-profit organization that provides a 12-step sober living program and housing for women recovering from alcohol and drug addiction. Scotties on the River will provide beer and bartenders.
It’s ironic that alcohol will be used to help raise money for recovering alcoholics said Scarlett Bowman, but there will be a lot of mocktails available (one teal colored), and live music. Women in the program will be helping run the event. It will be held inside the Coker Tire Museum at 1309 Chestnut St.
Five Wits Brewing Company will hold “Jerry Fest” on Aug. 5 from 2 p.m. until midnight. It will be in the parking lot behind the building at 1501 Long St.. The lot will be blocked off and entrance will only be available from inside the building. People will be carded at the door where tickets will be sold for the event that has a lineup of live music throughout the day. A temporary beer permit was approved to allow open containers of beer to be sold outside in the parking lot.
