Stanley Ray Settles, 69, affectionately known as “Stan the Man” or “Big Stan” departed this life for his new heavenly home on Thursday evening, November 21, 2024, at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center in Knoxville, Tennessee.

Stanley was born on April 7, 1955. He was the third child born unto the matrimony of the late Haywood Nello Settles and Sammie Berushia Canty Settles. He was a member of the Overcoming Believers Church (OBC) of Knoxville. He was a lifelong resident of Knoxville, and the product of Knoxville City School System. After graduating from high school, he attended and graduated from North Carolina Central University in 1977.

He was a sales representative for Circuit City Electronics, Inc. for 25 years. He ended his sales career at H. H. Gregg Company after eight years of service. Before disabled retirement, Stan served years as a counselor at the Mountain View Youth Academy for young boys in Dandridge, Tn. He was dedicated to making a positive difference in the lives of young people.

Stanley was preceded in death by parents, Haywood and Sammie Settles.

He leaves to cherish his memories his loving siblings, Haywoodene (Rayvon Harris) Hines-Harris of Rock Hill, SC and Gene (Rev Dr. Eva) Settles of Chattanooga; nephews, Jamahl K. (eve) Hines of Hartford, Ct., Shanuri D. Settles of Memphis, Tawambi J. (Melanie) Settles of Raliegh, NC, Jatari K. (Julia) Settles of Alpharetta, Ga.; five great-nieces, two great-nephews, and a host of cousins and friends.

Family will receive friends on Friday, Dec. 6, from 6-7:30 p.m. at Jarnigan & Son Mortuary.

Funeral services will be on Saturday, Dec. 7, at Overcoming Believers Church, 211 Harriet Tubman Street Knoxville, Tn. 37915, at 11 am. Pastor Darryl Arnold presiding and Rev. Dr. Eva Settles as eulogist. Interment will be at Sherwood Memorial Gardens.
