George “Larry” Blanks
George “Larry” Blanks, 81, of Fayetteville, Georgia, passed away on Tuesday, July 23, 2024.
He was born on Tuesday, January 26, 1943, to George and Lillian Blanks in Chattanooga, Tn. After graduating high school, he joined the Marine Corps at the tender age of 19. Larry served for four and a half years working as an aircraft mechanic while serving. George was discharged at 23 and started working for Delta Air Lines as an aircraft mechanic while attending college in the evening. He graduated with a BBA in marketing and was offered a position with an international data communications company which allowed him to travel to over 40 countries throughout the world working with international carriers.
Larry was an avid western movie fan. He became involved with western film festivals and worked as a committee member for the Williamsburg, Virginia Film Festival. After retirement he did work in the Georgia film industry as a background extra appearing in nearly 100 movies and TV episodes. Larry is preceded in death by his parents; brothers-in-law, Johnny Morris, and Fred Poteet; and his nephew, Justin Poteet.
He is survived by his wife, Diane Morris Blanks; sons, Scott Blanks and Brian (Jennifer) Blanks; grandson, Kaden Blanks; granddaughter, Amelie Blanks; along with several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 26, in the chapel of Mowell Funeral Home in Fayetteville at 3 p.m. with Pastor Ty Stoval officiating.
Visitation will occur prior to the service from 2-3 p.m. at the funeral home. We welcome you to leave your condolences, thoughts, and memories of Larry on our Tribute Wall.
