Lady Flames Play To Scoreless Draw In Season Opener

  • Thursday, September 5, 2024
Coach Lee Hughes debut as the Lee women’s soccer coach ended in a scoreless draw with host Eckerd College on Thursday evening at Johnson Field. The evenly played and hard fought contest was delayed by the weather in the first half and rain continued at times in the final 45 minutes.

The Lady Flames will continue their road adventures on Saturday as they move on over to Tampa and will face Tampa University in a contest slated for an 11 a.m. first kick. The Spartans opened their season on Thursday with a victory over visiting Christian Brothers University.

Lee outshot the Tritons 11-10 overall and 8-6 in the first half.
However, Eckerd had six shots on goal and Lee six during the overall contest. Lee veteran keeper Abby Whitcomb had five saves and Eckerd’s outstanding goalkeeper Cadence Talbert finished with five saves.

Grad student Beyonce Robinson took a pair of shots in the contest and placed both on target. Defender Jordan Blair stepped up for a pair of shots and had one on frame as did senior Ashley Eulo. Freshman Alexis Hale countered with a shot which was fired at the net.

The Lady Flames were the aggressors in the opening 45 minutes, firing eight shots but were held to just three shots in the second 45 minutes. On the other hand, the Tritons fired six shots in the opening half and came back with four in the second half. Whitcomb had four saves in the first 45 minutes and two in the second half. Talbert collected three saves in the opening half and two more in the second.

The rugged contest saw Lee whistled for 12 fouls and Eckerd nine. The Lady Flames were also flagged for three yellow cards.
