This past week, two HCSO D.A.R.E. Program Instructors Joseph Dangler and Ian Morrow participated in the 2025 Tennessee D.A.R.E. Officer’s Association’s Conference in Pigeon Forge. During this annual event, a car show was held for law enforcement agencies across the state to exhibit their D.A.R.E. vehicles in hopes of winning the coveted Best of Show Award.
Sheriff Austin Garrett announces the HCSO’s D.A.R.E. car, a 2018 Dodge Challenger, was voted this year’s Best in Show.
“I am very pleased our D.A.R.E.
car has been recognized as Best in Show across the state of Tennessee. Originally seized from a local drug dealer, this vehicle has been transformed into the sleek, dynamic car you see today. This remarkable achievement is the result of our team's dedication, the generosity of local businesses and the creativity and skill of Chattanooga State students—all working together to bring this vision to life,” said Sheriff Garrett.
Officials said, "The HCSO D.A.R.E. Car is a fully operational Sheriff's Office vehicle and is showcased routinely at community events, parades and schools to promote our D.A.R.E. Program. Serving as a mobile classroom and conversation starter, it signifies our commitment to partnering with schools, families and the community to build a safer, drug-free future for our youth.
"As stated by Sheriff Garrett, this vehicle was originally seized from a local drug dealer. All subsequent modifications, enhancements and upgrades were made possible through the support of generous local businesses, Chattanooga State students, and Asset Forfeiture Funds, ultimately bringing this vehicle to our fleet at no cost to Hamilton County taxpayers."
