Bill Norton, president of the Chattanooga Area Veterans Council, was among those addressing those gathered Wednesday for the 10th anniversary event of Chattanooga's Fallen Five.
Mayor Tim Kelly also spoke, saying, "Ten years ago today, we all remember where we were when the news broke - a terrorist attack at the military recruiting site and naval operations center in our own city. It was a day that changed us forever.
"But in the face of tragedy, Chattanooga did what it always does: we pulled together.
"We will never forget the Fallen Five who made the ultimate sacrifice:
Sergeant Carson Holmquist
Gunnery Sergeant Thomas Sullivan
Staff Sergeant David Wyatt
Lance Corporal Skip Wells
Petty Officer Second Class Randall Smith
"Their memory lives on in the heart of the most patriotic city in America."
He also said, "While we will always remember and honor their names, we also need to remember our Law Enforcement and First Responders who on that same day, rushed toward the danger. We need to keep them in our prayers daily as they continue to serve and protect our communities."
