Chattanooga firefighters worked through the overnight hours to battle a damaging house fire in East Lake.
Blue Shift companies were dispatched to a home in the 3500 block of 6th Avenue at 1:45 a.m. Thursday. Police officers arrived on scene initially and began knocking on doors to get everyone out. No one answered, so first arriving firefighters quickly launched an attack and search of the structure. No one was located.
A second alarm was called to bring additional fire companies to the scene.
During firefighting operations, flames went through the roof and it began sagging so fire officials removed all personnel from the residence for safety reasons. Once the bulk of the fire was knocked down, crews resumed interior operations.
Firefighters had the fire under control by 2:24 a.m. and transitioned into overhaul.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. There were no injuries. No one was home at the time, but several residents were displaced by the blaze and will be receiving assistance from the American Red Cross.
