The County Commission on Wednesday confirmed the appointment of Rebekah Bohannon as administrator of the Hamilton County Health and Social Services Division.

The appointment was by County Mayor Weston Wamp.

Also, the commission approved contracts with Tinker Ma, LLC for the Gateway Career Technical Education Building renovation ($1.59 million) and MTa Architecture and Planning for Soddy Daisy Middle School renovations and additions ($1.9 million).

A separate resolution approved HK Architects for Brainerd High School renovations and additions, utilizing a construction manager at risk procurement process.

Several resolutions focused on enhancing public safety and health services. The commission approved authorization for the Sheriff's Office to apply for and accept a grant from the Tennessee Statewide School Resource Officer (SRO) grant program, though specific details were to be provided at a later date.

Healthcare services received attention through a resolution authorizing the county mayor to sign a continuation contract with the Tennessee Department of Health for $338,600 to provide tuberculosis control services in Hamilton County from July 1, 2025, through June 30, 2026.

Another health-related resolution approved entering into a contract with Renaissance Life & Health Insurance Company of America for dental services effective Nov. 1.

The commission also approved a resolution expressing intent to apply for a grant for the Humane Transport of Patients from the Mental Health Transport Program for the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office.

The commission voted to appropriate up to $850,000 from the Hamilton County Roads Improvement Capital Projects Fund to improve and repair Sam Powell Trail Road. Additionally, commissioners reviewed accepting bids from Talley Construction Company, Inc. and Wright Brothers Construction Company, Inc. for one-year contracts for In-Place Hot Mix Asphalt Services, with options for three additional one-year renewals.

The commission voted to allocate up to $1 million from the 2024A Bond issue proceeds for various community recreation projects.

Two zoning resolutions were on the agenda but were subsequently withdrawn. These would have rezoned properties on Sandry Lane and Dexter Lane from A-1 Agricultural District to R-1 Single-Family Residential District, with one including conditions.

The panel approved the reappointment of two members to the Citizens Advisory Board for Recreation for two-year terms ending July 16, 2027.

The commission considered several community partnership initiatives, including a $60,000 contract with the City of Chattanooga for the Hamilton County Courts Community Service Program, running from July 1, 2025, to June 30, 2026.

Commissioners went along with a deviation from the County's Discretionary Funds Policy to appropriate $1,419.29 to the non-profit organization United Action Alliance, as requested by the Fifth District Commissioner.
