Jonathan Scales Fourchestra
Jonathan Scales Fourchestra will perform on Sunday, July 27, at 7:30 p.m. at Barking Legs Theater located at 1307 Dodds Ave.
You’ve heard this before, but the whimsically named Jonathan Scales Fourchestra is hard to define. Shifting from intense, jaw-dropping skill and passion to quiet moments when background noise fades and you hold your breath to absorb a soundscape of solitude, the power trio of electric bass (E'Lon JD), drums (Maison Guidry), and steel pans (Jonathan Scales) blends elements of jazz, classical, and progressive rock, sprinkled with Latin rhythms and soulful bursts of funk. From club and festival stages across North America and Europe, and tours of Africa, Southeast, and Central Asia as a cultural ambassador for the US Department of State, to their NPR Tiny Desk Concert with Béla Fleck, the Fourchestra’s live performances make even the most jaded listeners forget where they are… even if just for a moment.
This might sound odd, but as they get ready to release their eighth studio record, Jonathan Scales Fourchestra is only now fully embracing their identity as a band. Now, however, the Fourchestra is a cohesive group, and Jonathan is composing specifically for the trio, not just the pans.
