William E. Morton
William E. Morton, 96, of Rossville, Georgia passed away on Thursday, July 17, 2025.
He was born on August 20, 1928, in Geraldine, Alabama. William grew up on Sand Mountain and moved to Chattanooga where he began working at RockTenn. After leaving RockTenn, he went to work at Olen Conductors as a supervisor. He then went to work at Red Food Store Warehouse as a supervisor and then the Rossville Fire Department. While working for the city of Rossville, he was transferred to run the maintenance department where he retired from. After his retirement, he became a city councilman. He was a member of South Rossville Baptist Church.
William enjoyed Alabama football, the Braves, watching the kids play sports, hunting, fishing, and gardening. He would always eat breakfast with his buddies at Old South. He referred to this as “Romeo” as in “Retired Old Men Eating Out.”
He was preceded in death by his parents, Horace Virgil and Otha Opal Morton; and wife, Charlotte Ann Morton
Those left to cherish his memory are his two sons, Phil (Lynn) Morton, Bryan (Cathy) Morton; four grandchildren, Chad (Julie) Morton, Stasha (Matt) Joyce, Rachel (Ben ) Brooks, and Will (Lacie) Morton; seven great grandchildren, Carolyn Morton, Christopher Morton, Reid Joyce, Channing Joyce, Greyson Brooks, Rhett Morton, and Makaia Padgett, several nieces, nephews, and other extended family members and friends.
The family will receive friends in the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home and Crematory from 4-8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, and Wednesday, July 23, 2025 from 10 a.m. until the funeral hour.
The funeral service will be held at 12 p.m. on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, in the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home with Pastor Joel Callahan officiating.
Interment will follow in Tennessee Georgia Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in honor of William Morton to South Rossville Baptist Church at 101 E Peachtree Street, Rossville, Georgia 30741.
