Regional Songwriters Perform At Cohutta General Store Friday

  • Tuesday, April 30, 2024

Three singer songwriters will be sharing their songs at the Cohutta General Store in downtown Cohutta Friday at 6 p.m. The lineup includes Earl Brackin, Charlsey Etheridge and Rick McKee.

Review for the performers:

During his time in the northwest Georgia area, Earl Brackin has made quite a splash in the greater Chattanooga musical pond. He has twice been selected for the IBMA World of Bluegrass Songwriter Showcase and has had his songs played on nationally syndicated radio programs. Earl has played a variety of venues over the years ranging from county fairs and little country churches to Riverbend and was invited to bring his band to Russia for the Winter Olympics in Sochi. He has recorded with numerous groups over the years and he has released three solo albums, his latest entitled Flavors, a collection of songs he wanted to record that range from country to Americana. In addition to performing with his own band, Earl also provides vocals and mandolin for regional bluegrass band Spatial Effects.

Raised in the Appalachian Mountains, Charlsey Etheridge's Americana music roots run deep. After moving to Nashville in 2003, Charlsey was immersed in the Nashville songwriting culture, collaborating with the late Harley Allen, Steve Wariner, and with legendary guitarist Jack Pearson. In 2013, Etheridge released her first studio album, Memories of Mine, which received stellar reviews from No Depression, The Bluegrass Situation and more. In 2021, Etheridge collaborated with legendary guitarist Jack Pearson (of Allman Brothers Band fame) to release a previously recorded, newly mastered five-song EP, An Acoustic Christmas with Charlsey and Jack. In October of 2023 Charlsey released an album of all original music entitled Scars of Mine, which has garnered stellar reviews from many industry publications. In February of this year Etheridge made her debut on the renowned ‘Woodsongs Old Time Radio Hour’.

Cartersville’s Rick McKee is a singer/songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, music educator, composer, and conductor. His first CD, New Religion, is a testimonial to his skills as a composer and his ability as a lyricist. The album features twelve original songs in a variety of styles. McKee's second CD, Soft Horizon, was recorded to accompany the yoga sequences and practice of Sue Hopkins, CYA, in Cartersville, Georgia. He released his third solo project, entitled SPIN in September of 2023. Rick performs all vocal and instrumental parts on all three Cds. Rick and his wife Angee, started Cosmic Possum Music, a digital music publishing business. He composes original compositions and arrangements for musical ensembles and also provides clinician/conducting services for honor choirs.

The Cohutta General Store is at 317 Wolfe St. The free concert will begin at 6 p.m.
