Walter Julius “Joe” Crutcher
Walter Julius “Joe” Crutcher was called to take his eternal rest on April 26, 2024.
Joe was born on Aug. 9, 1939. Joe was a 1958 graduate from Howard High School. He was a father, grandfather and great-grandfather and friend. Joe retired from Vulcan Materials, and afterwards he enjoyed life to the fullest until he physically was unable.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents: father, Haywood Crutcher; mother, Gertie Key; son, Walter J, Crutcher, Jr.; daughter, Tonya Thompson; brother, Woodrow Crutcher; cousins, Geraldine Capers, Bettye Chunn, Bernice Scott and Mikiba Capers.
Joe's memories will be forever cherished by his surviving family, sons, Gerald (Kiva) Crutcher of Murfreesboro, Tn., Kenneth (Sylvia) Crutcher of Fort Worth, Tx., Derrick Crutcher and Joseph Crutcher, Sr., both of Chattanooga; daughters, Kimberly Jo Crutcher (Nahman) Long and Kari Crutcher both of Chattanooga; step (bonus) children, Jacqueline “Jackie” Smith, Karen “Missy” Jones, Keith Jones, Jeffrey Isbell, Mateen Ell; 15 grandchildren, India Hawkins, Jarred Crutcher, Porshia (Harold) Sexton, Allese Crutcher, Derrick Crutcher, Jr., Jalon Crutcher, Lakita Kimbrough, Teadra Kimbrough, Jeremy Thompson, Joseph Crutcher, Jr., Terrance Hayes, Julius Crutcher, Ta’Kayla Crutcher, Jo’Rhiya Crutcher and Ha’Rhiya Crutcher; 19 great-grandchildren, Justin Hawkins, Tony Arnett, Jermiah Sexton, Zuri Sexton, Kairo Crutcher, Trevon Poole, Kyla Poole, Nya Kimbrough, Tyree Kimbrough, Layla Jones, Jaden Jones, Kamari Jones, Unique Kimbrough, Talia Kimbrough, Riley Hughley, A’Kauri Crutcher, Azalea Thompson, Ezechial Thompson, Nyemiah Thompson; special cousin, Linda Austin, who was also his caregiver; a host of other family and friends.
He will lie in state on Saturday, May 4, at 9 a.m. at Taylor Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. in the chapel with Elder Keith Jones officiating. Burial will be in Lakewood Memory Gardens, East.
