The Chattanooga Division of Transportation announced the following upcoming construction related road closures:
Major Construction:
Central Avenue between Main Street and E. 23rd Street
The final segment of Central Avenue will be reconfigured and restriped this week on the following days/times (weather permitting): Monday, May 6 at 8 a.m. until Thursday, May 9 at 4 p.m.
During these times, the following restrictions and closures will be in place:
- All Central Avenue southbound lanes between Main Street and Rossville Boulevard will be closed.
A detour will be in place via Main Street, Polk Street and E. 23rd Street. Traffic will need to utilize the detour and then travel northbound to access all homes and businesses.
- Northbound traffic on Central Avenue between E. 23rd Street and Main Street will be reduced to a single lane.
- Access to all side streets will be maintained for the duration of the work. Any traffic exiting the side streets onto Central Avenue will need to travel northbound. All southbound traffic is restricted.
- Driveways and other access points to businesses and homes will be maintained except for very brief moments when new paint is sprayed and dried. These locations will be coned off during the minimum amount of time for the paint to set.
Should the work be completed early or an extension needed, additional announcements will be made.
Major Closure:
Emergency Closure Update - S. Willow and Bailey Avenue
Tennessee American Water crews were unable to complete repairs today due to inclement weather. Another attempt will be made tomorrow to have temporary repairs completed and reopen the intersection. Additional information will be provided when available.
Lake Resort Drive Bridge Construction Site
A full closure of Lake Resort Drive will be required to transfer traffic control devices to the new bridge span. The closure will take place on Friday, May 10 between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. All traffic will need to detour via Hamill Road.
Other Closures:
University Street/Campus Drive
The following will be closed from Tuesday, May 7 through Friday, Aug. 2 for dormitory renovations and construction:
- University Street between E. Eighth Street and Flinn Street;
- Campus Drive between McCallie Avenue and E Eighth Street; and
- The south sidewalk on McCallie Avenue between Campus Drive and the UTC Greenway
10th Avenue, Union Avenue, 113 Dal Brown Road
The following locations will be closed Tuesday, May 7 through Friday, May 10 for sewer lateral repairs.
- 3010 10th Avenue;
- 2317 Union Avenue; and
- 113 Dal Brown Road.
Closures will take place between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. daily; detours will be posted. All work is weather permitting.
7400 Tyner Road
The 7400 block of Tyner Road will be closed on Tuesday, May 7 from 8:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. for new water service installation. Detours will be posted.
