Robert “Bob” Long, a Vietnam veteran of the U.S. Army and longtime resident of North Georgia, passed away on April 28,2024, surrounded by family.

He was born on Oct. 24, 1946, to Robert and Mary Lou Long in Rainsville, Al. He graduated from Fyfe High School in 1965.

After his return from Vietnam he met his lovely wife, Ginger, whom he was married to for 54 years. He started his career in management at Zayre’s followed by starting Long Management Company and over 30 years at Abe Shavin Hardware.

Robert was very active in youth sports, coaching basketball, baseball and football, and served on the PRA committee. He loved fishing, Alabama football and watching his grandchildren play sports.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Mary Lou Long. His sisters, Barbara Heard and Mary Ann Long and his daughter, Tracy Long.

He is survived by his wife, Ginger Long; children, Craig Long (Larissa) of Chickamauga and Jaime Goins of Chickamauga; grandchildren, Zach Goins, Hunter Goins, Aaliyah Long, Bailey Long and Robert Long.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 3, at Heritage Funeral Home in Ringgold. Interment will follow at the Chattanooga National Cemetery.

The family will receive friends 4-8 p.m. on Thursday, May 2, at Heritage Funeral Home, Battlefield Parkway.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Canaan Baptist Church, 4318 13th Ave., Chattanooga, Tn. 37407.

Pall bearers are Zach Goins, Hunter Goins, Todd Causby, John Causby, Robert Moreland and Robert Green.
