Dr. Andy Harnsberger
Lee University’s School of Music will present Dr. Andy Harnsberger, director of percussion, and Dr. Caitlin Jones, instructor of percussion, in a faculty recital on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. The performance will take place in Squires Recital Hall, located in the Humanities Building on Lee’s campus.
The recital will feature pieces such as “Sequoia” by Alex Stopa, “Bossaccata” by Gordon Stout, and “In the Midst of Darkness,” “Unbreakable,” and “Victim of Fate” by Dr. Harnsberger.
Drs. Harnsberger and Jones are in demand as marimba soloists and guest clinicians across the United States. They are proponents for the advancement of marimba repertoire and frequently perform new works for a variety of audiences. Collectively, their YouTube channels have amassed over 1.6 million views. They officially began performing together as a duo in 2023 and are both performing artists and clinicians for Malletech instruments.
Dr. Harnsberger has performed in musical venues across Australia, Europe, Japan, North America, and South America and has been a featured artist at the Patagonia Percussion Festival in Argentina, Sulzbach-Rosenberg International Music Festival in Germany, and the Tamborimba Percussion Festival in Columbia. He has performed with Alabama, Atlanta, Charleston, Nashville, and Rochester symphony orchestras, among others. He has also been a soloist at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention, the Piccolo Spoleto Festival, and the Spoleto Festival USA.
Dr. Jones is a professional percussionist who has an active career as a performer and educator. In 2018, she was the marimba soloist for the American premiere of Roumen Boyadjieff Jr.’s “Concerto for Marimba and Orchestra” with the Cleveland Orchestra of Tennessee. In October 2021, she performed this work in America with full orchestra. In 2020, she gave the world premiere of “The Long Road” for solo marimba by Dr. Harnsberger and professionally recorded this work with GreenHaus Productions. In March of this year, Dr. Jones gave her 30th live performance of the piece. She has presented at Percussive Arts Society Days of Percussion and throughout the U.S. on various topics, including health and wellness for musicians.
