I said dumping fees are out of control, but in fact they are being controlled by Capital Waste Services. Capital Waste owns and, or operates, all the landfills and transfer stations in a 50-mile radius of Chattanooga.
They have implemented a two-ton minimum charge at $55 per ton at the transfer station in Soddy Daisy. I am a handy man who builds decks and does light remodeling. Every time I go to empty my trailer it costs me $110 no matter what or how much is in it.
I have called Capital Waste corporate offices only to be told I cannot be directed to a supervisor nor will they return my calls. There is no other choice for dumping materials other than their facilities so they have us all by the gonads.

I’m writing concerning the opinion piece titled “Dumping Fees Are Out of Control” that your paper ran today, April 28th. In short, it’s utter nonsense.
I’m aware that editorial writers and columnists are essentially immune from libel actions, so I won’t waste either your time or mine going down that road. I will, however, attempt to appeal to your reputation for accuracy and truth.
Attached to this email you’ll find a list containing 37 different facilities (not owned or operated by Capital Waste Services) within a 50-mile radius of the town of Soddy Daisy. Each of these facilities will take Mr. Lemon's trailer of waste materials. If we assume Mr. Lemons was exaggerating and instead narrow our search to a 20-mile radius, you’ll find there are seven facilities that will accept his waste materials.
I’m shocked at your willingness to print such misinformation, even if it is an opinion, given how harmful it is to my business. It’s clear that no one attempted to check the facts on this, and consequently you’ve given your readers the impression that Capital Waste Services “have us all by the gonads.” What tactless and distasteful language.

I would like to apologize to Capital Waste Services for saying that they were in control of dumping fees within a 50-mile radius of Soddy Daisy and say thank you to Matt Parker for supplying me with a vast list of dumping options.
I called all of the options on the list that were within a reasonable distance to travel. In my opinion, Georgia, Sparta, Athens, Decatur, etc. are not practical options. After being told by most I had to be a local resident to dump it basically boiled down to two options:
Birchwood Landfill- $84 minimum. 34 miles each way.
Bradley County Landfill- $24 minimum 41 miles each way.
Rhea County landfill- Operated by CWS
I enjoy the convienence of being able to dump right here in Soddy Daisy, where I am a resident. I just wish CWS was an affordable option for me.
