The Tennessee Golf Association began its season of competitions on Saturday with the opening round of the Men’s Mid-Amateur Four-Ball Championship, but Mother Nature stole the show.

Afternoon storms at Towhee Club in Spring Hill suspended play with only one-third of the groups able to finish their round. The resumption of the first round will start at 7:30 a.m. (CDT) Sunday, followed at 8 a.m. (CDT) with the final round using the same pairings as Saturday.

This is the fourth year for this event, with Towhee hosting it for the second straight year on the par 70 layout playing at 6,513 yards.

Aaron Ingalls of Jackson and Jeff Reuter of Humboldt combined to shoot 10-under 60 among those who completed their first round. Reuter was able to record eight birdies – including three in his first four holes – allowing his team to grab a two-shot lead.

The tandem of Murfreesboro’s Grant Leaver and Ben Glover from Paris posted an 8-under 62, while the Nashville duo of Richard Oref and John Jonas sit at 7-under with two holes remaining in their first round.

Tory Davis of Johnson City and Knoxville’s Tanner Davis teamed for a 6-under 64 to stand in fourth place.

Three teams are tied for fifth at 5-under, including David Zickler and Wiliam Kane from Franklin who closed their round with a 65. Wes Korth and Lee Maxwell from Cookeville were 5-under through their first six holes before play was suspended, while Nathan Frazier of Rising Fawn and Chattanooga’s Keoni Vidrine are at 5-under with four to play.

Defending champions Lucas Armstrong of Church Hill and Payne Denman of Murfreesboro are at 3-under through six holes completed.
