Thomas Richard Lawhorn, 77, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 3, 2024, to go be with the Lord and his family in heaven.

Tommy was a devoted husband, father, big brother, grandfather, uncle, cousin, and friend to all that knew him.

Tommy was preceded in death by the strongest woman we know Mother Sue Elizabeth Lawhorn, his loving kindhearted Wife of 48 years of marriage, Wanda Joyce Lawhorn, his amazing grandmother, Etta Mae Harris, father figure/grandfather, Charles Monroe Harris, and wonderful brother-in-law, Dwight Wayne Prichett.

Tommy is survived by his two daughters, Shelly Couvillon and Julie Lawhorn, who were his pride and joy, his daughter-in-law, Margie Lawhorn and son-in-law, Carey Couvillon, grandson, Justin Winn, best friend and brother, Jerry Lawhorn, baby sister, Carolyn Pritchett, nephew, Tony Pritchett, nieces, Angie Hodges, Jennifer Lawhorn, Lori Pritchett, and sister-in-law, Mary Lawhorn.

Tommy was a dedicated employee, hard worker, and a loyal man, retiring from Dupont with 31 years of service. Tommy graduated from Central High School and was one of the best basketball players in Chattanooga.

All who knew Tommy knew he never met a stranger; his laugh was one of a kind and would light up a room. You never had to wonder what he was thinking, what he believed in, or how he felt. Tommy was honest but loving. He would always make his phone calls daily checking on his family and friends. After he made those phone calls you could expect a follow-up call from him. Tommy, his brother Jerry, and sister Carolyn were raised by a single mother, whom we call Big Granny, and they grew a childhood bond that would last an eternity that could not be broken. They may not have had much as children, but they had love for each other and their Mother Sue, Granddaddy and Granny Harris who raised and molded all three of them into wanting more and better for their future. Tommy loved his country, family, and friends with every being inside.

Tommy's passing will leave heartache no one can heal and leave memories of love no one can steal. Tommy says, “I did it my way” and “All we need is love”.

The family will receive friends and loved ones from 2-8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 7, 2024 at the funeral home. Services will be in the funeral home chapel on Wednesday, May 8, 2024 at 1 p.m. Burial will follow at Tennessee-Georgia Memorial Park.

Pastor Joe Headrick will officiate the service and pallbearers will be Tony Pritchett, Dylan Pritchett, Blaine Pritchett, Wes White, Greyson Pendergrass, Ayden Pendergrass, and Jadon Lawhorn.
