Chattanooga catcher Jayce Purdy was named the Southern Conference Softball Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday.
Purdy batted .500 (5-10) for the week with five RBI, two home runs and two doubles. She slugged 1.300, had a .545 on base percentage and drew one walk. Behind the plate she had 19 putouts and three assists and had two caught stealing.
In the Mocs first game Sunday, she drove in two runs in the second inning with a double through the left side. The catcher caught two stealing including the Southern Conference steals leader.
In the second game, she had a solo home run in the second and a two-run blast in the fourth.
She led off the sixth with a double and her pinch runner scored.
Purdy leads the Southern Conference in caught stealing with 16 on the year and is fifth in the NCAA.
Chattanooga ended the regular season at 38-13 overall and 16-5 in Southern Conference action, three games ahead of second place UNCG. The Mocs will open SoCon Tournament play Thursday at 10:00 a.m. Their opponent will be decided after two games on Wednesday.
Eight-seeded ETSU will take on No. 5 Wofford Wednesday morning in a single-elimination opening round game. The winner will move on to face No. 4 Mercer in the 4:00 p.m. game. The winner of that game will be UTC’s opponent Thursday morning.
