The Cleveland State baseball team pulled out a win at Carson Newman today against their JV squad.
There were six lead changes in the back-and-forth battle with the Cougars (28-15, 10-11) scoring the last two in the top of the ninth for a 10-9 victory.
Each team threw nine pitchers. Eric Enerlich (4-1) earned the victory and Logan Bryson picked up his fifth save of the season.
Nate Dunfee scored the game's first run after an error by the Eagles catcher. Riley Orr then drove in Bryson Trammell on a single in the fourth to put Cleveland State up two.
Carson Newman's Kilgore hit a solo homerun in the fourth, then drove in another in the fifth after Nathan tripled scoring a run to put the Eagles on top.
Brayden Evans then singled home Dylan Owens in the top of the sixth to even the score.
Evans scored later in the inning on a Kain Collins single. Dunfee doubled home De'Yon Cannon, then Collins later got home on a wild pitch.
In the bottom of the sixth Carson Newman put up five runs to retake the lead 8-6. In the top of the seventh Brock Harvey hit the Cougars only homerun of the game and later in the inning Evans scored when Dunfee flew out to centerfield.
Carson Newman scored one more in the bottom of the eighth before Harvey doubled in the ninth bringing home Harrison Garrett and Trammell for the game winning runs.
Cleveland State returns home for their next game on Friday hosting first place Walters State (39-10, 18-3) for the first of a three game series. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
